An invitation to discover Valtellina’s food tradition and culture

The educational Menaglio Mill in Teglio

Menaglio Mill is the best-preserved example of the traditional water mills found throughout the Teglio area.

Owned by the Municipality of Teglio and managed by the Association for the Cultivation of Buckwheat and Traditional Alpine Cereals, the mill has been restored while preserving its original structures and tools, allowing visitors to take a step back in time.

Located on the edge of the municipal border in the San Rocco hamlet, the mill is still operational and features exhibition spaces on two levels. Visitors can also explore the bakery and kitchen, where they can taste typical Valtellina products.

The site is unfenced and always accessible from the outside, making it a pleasant destination for a walk. Guided tours of the interior spaces—mainly offered in spring and summer—provide insights into the history of Alpine cereal processing and the cultural significance of buckwheat in the local tradition.
