About 67 km long, the Valtellina Wine Road crosses one of the most extraordinary wine landscapes in the Alps, where the cultivation of Nebbiolo intertwines with centuries of history, culture, and human labor.
The vineyards climb the steep slopes, supported by the famous dry stone walls, a masterpiece of rural engineering recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: over 2,500 km of walls preserving the balance between man and mountain.
In the stretch from Teglio to Tirano, the route winds through authentic villages and open valley panoramas: Teglio, the birthplace of pizzoccheri and guardian of an ancient agricultural tradition, gives way to Bianzone, with its orderly rows of vines and the elegance of Tenuta La Gatta, a 16th-century Dominican monastery transformed into a winery. Here, visitors can discover the heart of Valtellina viticulture, enjoying tastings and walks among the vineyards.
Continuing towards Villa di Tirano and finally Tirano, the Wine Route opens towards the Swiss border, where the vineyard landscape meets Alpine hospitality. Here the itinerary finds its natural endpoint — but also a new starting point for wine experiences, excursions, and visits to the local wineries.
