A sunny facing trail which can be ridden in the late season. The climb from Tirano is never steep, but very long (24,6 Km), so you would better use your car to get to Schiazzera. From the Schiazzera Hut you can admire an amazing panoramic view of the middle Valtellina, from there you can also see the switchbacks of the Tornantissima trail.
THE CLIMB From Tirano – Bus and Train Square (by car or by bike) From the Bus station Square ride (or drive) alongside the right bank of the Adda river until you get to the cycle track which you must follow until Lovero. Cross the bridge and reach Vervio, then on asphalt road to Alpe Susen. Follow a dirt road to the parking just above the Schiazzera Hut. Aver- age time 2-2,30 h. From Schiazzera parking 2000 m height From the parking carry your bike for about 10 minutes to Schiazzera Hut (2.077 m) and follow a track (some bike carrying possible) to the junction with the Sentiero Italia at 2.176 m (sign Step 1). Ride on the mule track until you reach the highest point of the trail at 2.210 m height. THE DESCENT From Schiazzera to Tirano 12 km 1.782 m A fairly flowing long descent, without particularly steep sections, alternating paths, dirt roads and asphalt. The first part to Sovo (sign Step 2) is on an easy track. From here ride on a dirt road, turn left on a mule track with several hairpins, follow a dirt road and then asphalt again until you get a little above Baruffini (Sign Step 3). The final part to Tirano passes through the vineyard terraces, that stretch for kilometres along the Retic slopes to lower Valtellina.
