The peak that approaches 3,000 meters soars pyramidally with three ridges and three slopes. Its east face offers climbers compact, vertical rock. The name is taken from the pass of the same name. The first ascent was made by on July 9, 1893 by: L.Darmstadter, J.Stabeler and Chr. Schnitzler from the NW face and the W ridge.
From Malghera you reach the Sacco cheese factory (N253). You descend to the valley floor and past the bridge over the Roasco stream continue to the Casera di Mandri Vegi 2063m (N201). From here the road gives way to the trail that bends to the right and climbs the steep shady slope before reaching, turning NE, the plateau where the Pian del Lago rises.(Time: 1h 30 min) From here the trail is easy loss. Continue E on level ground and then ascend to leave the Pond to the S and enter the small grassy valley that leads to the base of a steep scree escarpment. Climb back up a stony little valley, which you traverse to the left to go around a rocky bar to reach Sacco Pass.
